I’d have to say one of the most interesting holiday decorated houses we have ever done was one located on Daniel Island Park of Charleston, South Carolina. I first met the gentleman as part of a regular appointment. He kind of told me that he used to have a holiday decorator, but the person hadn’t put a lot of effort into it. So I asked him to give me a chance on your house. He agreed and I just totally piled on the lights. This became my showcased house as of to date. It was the most decorated home I’ve ever done.
Even back in the day, animated lights required lots of strands of lights, music, and controllers. Since we didn’t have RGB animated lights back then, we would have to run 4 lights on every part of the home. Thru that system we were able to synchronize the lights with the music. Our client enjoyed picking out his favorite Christmas music to go along with his animated light show.
To give you an idea on how complex this light show was: we had three, 30 amp controllers so his light show used 90 amps of power. With today’s technology with RGB’s and LED’s we would need about 10 amps for the same project. Back in the day, this was quite a feat. We were broadcasting the music both to a radio station and thru outdoor speakers placed in the yard. We would play the music from 4:00pm to 8:00pm then a timer would cut off the music and allow the lights to continue until 11:00pm. I believe everyone that lived on Daniel Island had either seen or at least heard about his amazing light and music show.
He said that people drove by constantly and then returned with the kids in tow. This package came with its own maintenance person. He would go there every evening and change out light bulbs, flip breakers, check fuses, etc. Our client loved not having to worry about rainstorms or wind. The complexity of that one single quarter acre lot was about like a theme park complexity these days. I still look back on that home as one of my most memorable displays of my lifetime.
Now since then, the homeowner has sold the home and moved away. Yet every year he still calls me up and asks me to do a simpler decoration package for one of his family member’s homes. This is something he wants to do as part of his gift to his children and it has become a family tradition. Why not start a family tradition of decorating at your own home? The good news is that you can start with something simple and then each year add another string of LED lights, displays, wreaths, tree or shrub lighting, rooftop lighting – the list is long, but each person has the ability to consult with our designers and let their creative ideas become a reality.
Homeowners that use Christmas Décor then become eligible for Early Lighting discounts the following year. We call these earned discounts, Elf Dollars, and they have been a big hit. Not only do loyal customers receive a discount, they also have their decorations put up early before the rush. Of course, they won’t actually turn them on until they are ready, but just knowing they won’t be waiting in line to get their place decorated is a big plus.
